We are excited to announce that the oldest portion of Straw Cemetery is now on the National & New Jersey Registers of Historic Places!
The effort toward this goal began in February 2013 when the St. James Lutheran Church Council agreed to contract with Michael Margulies of Eclectic Architecture to make application through a state grant. The Cemetery Association agreed to include the cemetery in the application.
As part of the extensive application, historian Chris Carson of Eclectic Architecture did a complete and exhaustive research of the historic congregation and our very old cemetery. The results of this extensive presentation are summed up in the letter received from the State of New Jersey. Click here to read the letter.
